Revealed in camouflaged form, the new flagship from the Ingolstadt brand is designed to tower over the Q7 and directly challenge the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS with a huge three-row cabin.

Due to launch late 2026, it’s an indirect successor to the A8 limousine and will be available with up to seven seats.

The interior centres around a spacious, exclusive cabin – “conceived as a sanctuary for family, business and long journeys” and offering premium materials, variable seating with individual electric seats in the second row and an airy panoramic sunroof that can be opened wide and turned opaque to keep out the sun or prying eyes. The top trim level also features illumination: 84 LEDs bathe the roof in one of 30 colours – matching the selected ambient lighting.

It will also feature automatic opening and closing doors in a brand-first. The carmaker says entering the vehicle will be an experience in itself.

The interior additionally gets a triple screen setup, a new Bang & Olufsen premium sound system with 4D sound, and dual wireless charging pads.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said: “With the Q9, ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ is increasingly defined by the in-car experience.”

Audi promises a “particularly harmonious and high-quality selection of materials and colours” and the Q9 will also deliver generous storage and ample luggage space, complemented by a new aluminium rail system in the boot and a roof rack for the standard roof rails with all versions.

The powertrain line-up for Europe is yet to be announced but is expected to include diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid power.

UK specifications will be revealed closer to the Q9’s launch late 2026.

The 2026 Arval Fleet and Mobility Observatory shows 89% of businesses operating cars and vans already have or plan to adopt policies to promote charging at work. That’s compared to 69% for public chargers and 18% at home.

John Peters, head of Arval Mobility Observatory in the UK, said workplace charging gives a high degree of control over both the cost and availability of charging, notably for van fleets.

“It means businesses can be sure that vehicles start each day fully charged and ready for work, which has real operational value.”

Peters said that public charging is a necessity for many fleets, which accounts for its apparently high level of popularity, but added that it was surprising to see fewer than one in five of those surveyed opting for home charging.

“For car fleets especially, this is a cheap and effective means of operating electric vehicles, and we would expect more fleets to opt for this method as electrification increases.”

The research also indicates that businesses are backing these preferences with investment – 26% already have already installed workplace charging and 28% plan to do so within the next 12 months.

Peters said: “Installing large numbers of workplace chargers may seems quite expensive as well as complex and time consuming, depending on the site, but it does mean that fleets have a charging resource that should provide dependable, cheap power for decades into the future. It’s a worthwhile investment.”

The research also indicates a feeling that charging availability generally is lacking, with 41% of fleets believing there are not enough public charging points and 41% insufficient numbers of home chargers.

Peters said: “The numbers of chargers of all types in the UK is actually rising quickly but, as the number of electric cars and vans grows equally rapidly, so is demand. It’s easy to feel as though infrastructure investment is not keeping pace with EV expansion.”

Interestingly, there is little variance in the results for any of these questions by either size of fleet or when UK results are compared internationally.

Peters finished: “It appears that everyone is in the same boat. Electrification is a long-term project and charging is a key element that presents almost identical challenges to all fleets, wherever they are based.”

It’s now against the law for third parties, including unofficial test booking and cancellation finder services as well as driving instructors, to make bookings for someone else.

It’s also a breach of DVSA’s terms and conditions for the booking service for third parties to change, swap or cancel a driving test for someone else.

The DVSA said the changes would stop bots and third parties buying up tests to resell them at inflated prices, which has been blocking test availability for learners.

Beverley Warmington, DVSA chief executive, said: “These measures will help free up appointments for genuine learners who are ready to take their test.”

The new rules aim to make booking driving tests fairer for learner drivers.

Learners should only ever pay the official DVSA fee – £62 on weekdays and £75 on evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

The latest changes come after the DVSA reduced the number of changes that can be made to a test from six to two. The move came into effect on 31 March 2026.

From 9 June 2026, further restrictions will limit learners to moving their test only to one of the three nearest driving test centres. This will help to deter bookings at locations where learners do not intend to take their test.

Driving instructors and driving schools can still advise learners on when they are ready to take a test and offer support throughout their learning journey. They can also set their available times, preventing learners from booking tests at times that do not work for them

The DVSA said it would continue to increase driving examiner capacity to help provide more tests. A total of 1,998,608 car driving tests took place between April 2025 and March 2026 – an increase of 8.6% from the previous year

Nationwide Vehicle Contracts said the changes mark a significant reset for a system that has struggled with long backlogs and misuse in recent years, shifting responsibility back to learners while reinforcing the role of professional instruction.

A spokesperson said: “For learner drivers, the message is that preparation matters more than ever. With far fewer opportunities to change a test date or location, learners will need to be confident they are genuinely ready before booking.

“While the rules may initially feel less flexible, experts say they should discourage speculative bookings and last-minute cancellations that have made it harder for test-ready learners to find a slot. In the longer term, this could mean fairer access to tests and improved pass-rate confidence.”

But ManMohan Sodhi, Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Bayes Business School said problems with test bottlenecks go beyond the touting of slots, and have far-reaching consequences for car manufacturing, sales, mobility and employment.

Professor Sodhi said: “The DVSA’s new measures to curtail unauthorised sales of driving test slots do not address the root problem of shortages. Removing the backlog now should be more about mobility, employment and car purchases than the touting of slots.

“For many, especially those aged 16 to 24, obtaining a driving licence marks a key transition to independent mobility and, often, car ownership. This group makes up roughly one-ninth of the UK population and already faces an unemployment rate of nearly 16%, more than three times the national average.

“Delays in getting a licence can further limit access to jobs and even education, particularly in rural places with less access to public transport where driving is essential. The result is a widening urban–rural divide, with reduced mobility and economic opportunity giving younger people in rural areas yet another reason to migrate to cities. “For the car market, fewer newly licenced drivers can only lead to a reduction in first-time car buyers. But that’s on top of other uncertainties for an industry already navigating difficulties in the UK.

“A genuine solution would be to greatly expand licensing, by using private driving instructors to issue certificates of competence that the DVSA can then use to issue licences. To keep the system honest, the DVSA could test only, say, a tenth of applicants, and strike off driving instructors with poor records.”

The move follows the firm’s acquisition by Steer Automotive Group in 2024, and strengthens its national repair capability and enhances support for fleet customers across key regions.

The expansion includes a second location in Edinburgh, spanning over 10,000 sq. ft and offering full structural repair capabilities for larger fleet vehicles.

Komoo has also added a new onsite facility at Birmingham Airport featuring a four-bay Van POD designed to deliver both fast-track and larger-scale repairs in a high-demand, time-sensitive environment.

Alongside this, a second Aberdeen site, comprising a 3,500 sq. ft warehouse with capacity for over 100 vehicles, supports high-volume throughput and efficient fleet handling.

Together, these developments significantly enhance Komoo’s operational footprint and strengthen Steer’s ability to deliver efficient, high-quality fleet repair solutions. The additional capacity also improves triage capability across the network, enabling work to be directed to the most suitable location and ensuring fleet vehicles return to service as quickly as possible.

Carl Henderson, managing director at Komoo, said: “We continue to listen to our customers and are committed to providing bespoke repair solutions, enabling them to achieve their core objectives, whilst delivering high-quality repairs promptly at an affordable price.”

Catrin Morgan, sales & marketing director at Komoo, added: “This marks an important step forward for us and is an exciting part of our journey. This is all about our customers – giving them better solutions.”

Occupational driving is the most common – and most dangerous – work activity in Britain and now causes more workplace deaths than construction or agriculture.

With over five million people driving regularly as part of their job, and millions more commuting to work or meetings on the roads, the new best practice guide helps employers keep their staff safe when driving for work.

Issued through RoSPA’s Scottish Occupational Road Safety Alliance (ScORSA) project funded by Transport Scotland, the Managing Occupational Road Risk – ScORSA Best Practice Guide offers practical, employer-ready advice on managing road risk – from driver training and journey planning to the growing risks of the ‘grey fleet’ and the gig economy.

Failure to effectively manage occupational road risk can lead to not only severe injuries and tragic loss of life, but also impact organisations in terms of profits, staff time, higher insurance premiums and reputational damage.

ScORSA’s best practice guide contains practical advice for organisations of all sizes on topics such as vehicle selection and maintenance, driver training, journey planning, emergency procedures, and performance monitoring.

It also emphasises the importance of having the right policies, people, and procedures in place to foster a strong road safety culture in the workplace, including guidance on:

The relevant legal framework and employer responsibilities

How to develop a risk management approach, including risk assessment, control measures, and monitoring performance

How to learn from operational and incident experience

How to engage staff, senior managers, and directors to ensure strong leadership

The best practice guide also looks at the risks posed by the ‘grey fleet’ – employees’ own vehicles used for work – and which is estimated at anywhere between four million and 14 million vehicles.

Grey fleet vehicles often fall outside routine organisational safety checks, meaning that roadworthiness, insurance compliance, and driver fitness can vary widely.

In addition, the growth of the gig economy has meant an increase in the number of vehicles being used for work – particularly light goods vehicles (LGVs) such as vans, around half of which are owned by self-employed or gig economy workers.

Based on the latest research by RoSPA’s road safety experts, the new guide gives employers the tools they need to protect employees and the general public from death and serious injury on the roads.

Rebecca Hickman, chief executive at RoSPA, said: “Keeping people safe on the road is not just a legal responsibility – it is a moral one. For many of us, travelling for work is the most significant risk we frequently face in our working lives, and it is essential that this risk is managed effectively.

“This best practice guide reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting employees, contractors, and the wider public from occupational road risk. By setting clear standards and promoting a culture of accountability and care, we are taking meaningful steps to ensure that everyone returns home safely at the end of each day.”

The exclusive research reveals four out of five fuel finder apps or websites that are part of the Government’s Fuel Finder scheme are not being kept up to date.

This means drivers using these sites could end up paying between 6p and 8p per litre of fuel (petrol and diesel respectively) extra due to the inaccurate price information.

That equates to £3.60 more to fill up with petrol and £4.80 more for diesel, based on a typical family SUV with a 60-litre fuel tank. Over a year, that could leave drivers paying £260 more than expected, according to the analysis.

Fuel Finder is a new government service that helps drivers find the cheapest fuel near them. It makes fuel prices available to third-party apps and websites so motorists can compare prices easily.

Under the new regulations introduced by the Government in February, fuel stations must report the latest prices to its real-time data service and update it within 30 minutes of any changes.

The Government shares this data via an API, allowing third-party apps, car sat-nav systems, and mapping apps to show live, comparable pricing.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero says 92% of fuel retailers have signed up to the Fuel Finder scheme, and the Competition and Markets Authority started enforcement action on 1 May against companies that had not by sending out hundreds of warning letters.

However, the investigation suggests various third-party platforms that have integrated the Government’s API are not being kept up to date.

What Car? checked prices for regular (E10) petrol, regular (B7) diesel and super unleaded petrol (E5) and found that correct prices were displayed on the PetrolPrices app, which stated the provider had updated prices on that day.

However, prices on Confused.com, Fuel Finder UK, Fuel Spy and MotorMouth UK had not been updated and were showing older prices in two out of four locations. These discrepancies in price information suggest that some of the fuel finder apps are not being updated often enough to reflect price changes in a timely manner.

Claire Evans, What Car? consumer editor, said with fuel prices likely to stay eye-wateringly high for the foreseeable future, motorists need easy access to the latest fuel prices so they can save money wherever possible.

“The CMA and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero need to act quickly to enforce the legal requirement to provide up-to-date information, and the fuel app suppliers need to ensure data is updated at least once a day so that it is showing the latest price information.”

Battery electric vehicle (BEV) transactions grew by 32.0% to 86,943 units, as nearly one in 23 buyers (4.3%) made the switch; up from around one in 30 last year.

At the same time, demand for used hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) rose by 27.6% to 128,039 units, increasing their market share to 6.4%. But plug-in hybrid (PHEV) transactions fell by-8.9% to 20,021 units, comprising 1.0% of the market.

Combined, electrified vehicles accounted for 11.7% of used cars finding new owners in the first quarter of 2026.

The rise in EV sales bucked a stagnant used car market overall. Sales were down 0.2% to 2,016,232 units in Q1, ending a 12-quarter growth streak. The SMMT said the slight fall was the result of a 2.3% fall in March, which followed an exceptionally high performance in March 2025; the only March exceeding 700,000 sales since 2017.

The SMMT said the rise in BEV transactions was the result of sustained investment by manufacturers into new models. Supported by substantial discounts and government incentives, these BEVs are filtering into the used market in ever greater numbers.

The SMMT data also showed that petrol remained the best-selling fuel type, despite transactions falling 0.6% to 1,147,969 units, while diesel demand experienced a 6.7% decline to 629,987 units, reflecting reduced supply from the new car market. Even so, conventionally fuelled cars still accounted for 88.2% of total transactions in the first quarter.

Supermini sales dipped 1.0%, but at 648,229 units remained the most popular used purchase, accounting for 32.2% of the market. Lower medium was the next biggest segment, with 546,249 units changing hands, an increase of 0.2% to a 27.1% share. SUVs/crossovers saw the highest growth, up 5.4% to 357,295 units, while MPVs experienced the sharpest decline; down 6.5%, to 69,886 units.

Echoing the new car market, black and grey remained the best-selling colours, up 0.4% and 2.8%, with white back in the top three after 3.1% growth to overtake blue. Cream recorded the strongest growth, up 11.7%, although volumes were small at 1,399 transactions, and pink recorded the steepest decline, down 17.8% to 1,214 units. Maroon was the least popular, with just 1,108 cars changing hands.

The SMMT also warned that the average age of the UK vehicle parc has risen, as announced in its latest Motorparc data, and now stands at a new high of 9.7 years – up from eight years in 2019.

Meanwhile, the latest new car outlook expects the market to rise 3.6% to 2.093 million this year, but BEV share has been downgraded to 26.8%, from 28.5%, following an underperforming first quarter.

The industry body renewed its calls for a rapid review of the UK’s ZEV mandate to “align policy with market realities”.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said that “every fiscal and policy lever must be pulled to ensure a healthy new car market that delivers zero-emission vehicles that can in future flow through to the used market”.

High costs push used buyers toward EVs

Philip Nothard, insight director at Cox Automotive, pointed out that Q1 2026 transactions again exceeded two million, marking only the second such result since 2019.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-96705" data-attachment-id="96705" data-permalink="https://fleetworld.co.uk/arrival-of-chinese-bevs-could-push-down-prices-says-cox/philip-nothard-20231/" data-orig-file="https://fleetworld.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Philip-Nothard-20231.jpeg" data-orig-size="1024,768" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Philip Nothard 2023(1)" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="<p>Philip Nothard, insight director, Cox Automotive</p>

But he warned that the marginal year‑on‑year decline points to a market beginning to plateau.

“With demand under pressure from broader economic headwinds, sustaining this level of activity may prove challenging without a meaningful improvement in consumer confidence and purchasing power,” he added.

Matas Buzelis, motoring expert at CarVertical, said falling used car sales were another sign that drivers were feeling the squeeze, but added that more motorists are exploring electric vehicles as a way to reduce running costs.

“However, many are still taking time before making the switch, especially as home energy costs are expected to rise dramatically over the summer,” he added.

Iain Reid, global content director at Carwow, said the SMMT figures mirror latest Carwow data, which shows used EV enquiries are up 30% compared with February and March. Meanwhile, a recent poll of 300 Carwow customers revealed that 39% say they are more likely to buy an EV or hybrid as a result of the global political situation.

“Both of these seem to indicate that some consumers are looking at the price of fuel and seeing a used EV as a way to reduce their monthly motoring costs.

“But I think it also shows the depth of choices available to consumers now. That gives them the opportunity and the confidence to consider a used EV that they perhaps didn’t have before.”

Finally, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) said the increase in BEV demand must be matched with an acceleration in skills training.

Nick Connor, CEO of the professional body for the automotive sector, said: “The latest IMI TechSafe data revealed that only one in four UK technicians are currently qualified to work on electric vehicles, raising concerns about the sector’s readiness to support growing EV adoption.

“However, it’s easy to understand why the sector is not moving at the same pace on skills as EV adoption. Automotive businesses are battling a number of challenges, not least of which there’s still a significant pool of ICE vehicles that must be maintained. So investing in new EV skills can sometimes seem like a future need rather than what’s required today.”

Connor said targeted government support for training and upskilling was essential to ensure the UK has the capability, confidence and safety standards needed to deliver net zero.

Together, with the right investment in people as well as technology, the UK can lead the way, but skills must be treated as a core part of the infrastructure.”

Rising oil prices fuel major increase in used EV sales, reports Indicata

The Middle Eastern conflict has had a marked positive impact on the popularity of used EVs in the UK, according to Indicata.

Its latest Market Watch report reveals that sales rose to a record 9.8% of all used cars sold in April, up from 7.4% in March, while stock levels reduced from 10% to 9.1% as drivers turn to electric to combat the rising fuel pump prices of both petrol and diesel.

The Market Days’ Supply (MDS) of EVs also fell to a record low of 41 days. This means electric cars are the second fastest-selling powertrain behind petrol cars which have an MDS of 39 days. This EV figure is the lowest in the 16 European countries where Indicata publishes its Market Watch report.

The MDS of EVs according to Indicata data was 85 days in January, which shows just how quickly market sentiment towards used EVs has changed in just a few months. MDS is derived from dividing the current supply of inventory by the average daily retail sales rate over the past 45 days. A lower number signifies high demand and quick sales.

Dean Merritt, Indicata UK’s national retail strategy manager, said: “We are seeing a clear acceleration in used BEV sales, combined with a contraction in stock levels which is improving market fluidity. It has helped clear the backlog of used EV stock; however, this adjustment has not yet translated into an increase in prices.”

Used EV prices fell by 0.5% in April, according to Indicata’s data. The business says the current market dynamics are likely to support a stabilisation of residual values in the short term; however, it remains uncertain how sustainable this shift will be if energy prices begin to normalise over the coming weeks and months.

“It puts the used EV market in a good place as consumer and wholesale demand is growing at a time when more EVs are being de-fleeted by leasing and salary sacrifice companies,” said Merritt.

The newly created role is focused on deepening customer partnerships and enhancing long-term value at the outsourced fleet management provider.

The appointment marks the first senior hire following recent investment in the group by private equity firm LDC and reflects i247’s commitment to accelerating its customer-centric growth strategy.

Backed by LDC, i247 Group is increasing investment in its people, technology and service delivery to support evolving fleet requirements.

Abraham joins the group following eight years at Volkswagen Financial Services, where she served as fleet supply manager. Having worked closely with i247 as a customer, she brings a deep understanding of client expectations, operational complexity and the realities of managing large scale fleet requirements. Abraham also has more than two decades of experience leading outsourced operations and customer-focused teams, including roles at Telegen UK and Reed Talent Solutions.

Steve Thornton, commercial director for i247 Group, said the new appointment reflects the company’s commitment to strengthen its focus on customer success.

“The creation of the director of customer success role ensures we continue to deliver exceptional service while unlocking greater value for our existing customers. Abraham brings outstanding experience from both a customer and operational perspective, making her ideally placed to lead the team.”

Abraham commented: “I’m looking forward to building on the group’s strong customer foundations – working closely with our partners to anticipate their needs, driving greater value from our services, and supporting them in navigating an increasingly complex and data-driven fleet landscape.”

i247 Group continues to strengthen its position as a trusted partner to fleet operators, recently bringing together industry leaders for a roundtable to explore fleet driver safety, hosted by the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA). The event highlighted a gap in driver understanding of new vehicle technologies such as ADAS, reinforcing the importance of ongoing customer support throughout the fleet lifecycle.

Open to colleagues across Ogilvie Fleet, regardless of their current role or seniority, the FLP is designed to support the company’s future leaders through a structured development pathway.

Part of MD Nick Hardy’s wider people-focused strategy, the programme is designed to help identify internal talent pools, recognise leadership potential and encourage the transfer of knowledge and expertise across the organisation.

Ogilvie Fleet has an average employee length of service of over 10 years, alongside recognition through Investors in People and Best Companies accreditation. The new scheme shows its continued investment in employee development, retention and long-term career progression.

Ten candidates have been selected for the inaugural FLP cohort and will take part in a tailored development programme combining mentor support from senior managers, personal development workshops, increased exposure to wider business operations and senior leadership decision-making, formal qualifications where appropriate, and additional networking and development opportunities designed to support both personal and professional growth.

Alongside the FLP launch, Ogilvie Fleet has also formalised its Operational Leadership Team (OLT), further strengthening progression pathways and succession planning across the organisation. The OLT will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to support both individual and group development and training plans in the months ahead.

Nick Hardy, managing director at Ogilvie Fleet, said the new Future Leaders Programme represents was another important step in the continued development of the company’s employees and business.

“We have incredibly strong talent across Ogilvie Fleet and this programme is about recognising that potential, investing in it and creating clear opportunities for progression.

“What has been particularly encouraging throughout the process is the depth of capability, ambition and leadership qualities demonstrated by colleagues across the business, which gives us great confidence for the future.”

Douglas Haddow, director at Geneva Management Consultants, said that working alongside Ogilvie Fleet on the development of the Future Leaders Programme had highlighted the strength of culture and ambition that exists throughout the organisation.

He added: “The programme has been carefully designed to help identify and develop future leadership capability, while giving participants valuable exposure, mentoring and personal development opportunities that will support both individual and business growth over the years ahead.”

The scheme, run by tech platform Heva Energy and billed as a UK-first, allows employees to fund clean energy systems through pre-tax salary reductions, as with electric vehicle salary sacrifice schemes.

Founders say the scheme could halve household bills while bringing benefits such as no upfront cost, no credit check and net costs as low as £75 a month.

Under the scheme, employees access solar panels, home batteries or EV charge points through their employer. Payments are deducted from gross salary before income tax and National Insurance are calculated.

As an example, a 40% taxpayer saves 42% on the cost of the scheme compared with buying the same system outright or on consumer finance at 12% APR.

The scheme is cashflow positive from day one. For an employee on £60,000 with a company EV and a detached house, the full solar, battery and charge point package costs £123 a month net after tax savings, while generating £171 a month in energy savings.

For an employee without a company EV, a battery-only option is available to all. The battery stores cheap off-peak electricity and releases it during expensive peak hours, effectively halving the average energy bill.

The scheme is designed so employers incur no financial risk. Heva says companies save £2,500 in National Insurance Contributions per participating employee per year and reduce their Scope 3 emissions by 1.3 tonnes per employee annually.

The scheme takes two months from employer onboarding to first installation; and Heva says the NHS and The National Lottery Community Fund are already participating employers.

Ian Napier, co-founder at Heva Energy, said: “Energy price disruption is not short-term. It is a structural shift, and most households have no mechanism to protect themselves from it. Consumer finance for solar locks you into credit checks and 12% interest rates, while salary sacrifice removes both barriers and offers the deepest savings for those who need them most. This is about transforming energy independence from a luxury to a workplace benefit accessible to every taxpayer.”

The scheme uses Tesla Powerwall and EcoFlow hardware, selected for longevity and manufacturer warranty coverage. All installers are vetted by Heva and 21-day repair or replace SLA is included as standard.

Demand for the scheme has tripled in the past month. Customers include sustainability leaders, HR teams and employees looking for a hedge against energy price volatility.

Ian Napier continued: “People are looking at their bills and deciding they want a way out.”

Zobair Mehmood from The National Lottery Community Fund said the scheme is helping its employees deal with volatile home energy prices.

“We already use salary sacrifice for electric vehicles; extending that mechanism to solar and batteries was the most direct way to protect our people from rising bills while making real progress on our net zero commitments. The fact that there’s a battery-only option for employees who can’t participate in salary sacrifice matters to us because we really wanted a benefit our whole workforce could use.”
